With a background in Multisport Tim discovered his love for running in the hills while training for the Coast to Coast; a race starting on the wild west coast of the South Island, crossing the main divide of the Southern Alps and finishing across the Canterbury plains at the east coast, all in a day. Lured in by the ruggedness and beauty of running in the misty Tararuas, it wasn’t long before he was hooked and multisport took a back-seat to long adventures through the mountains. With epic stories of historic light and fast crossings by the likes of Graeme Dingle, Gary Goldsworthy and Colin Rolfe; and the support of a tight-knit community of like minded runners, he was soon planning his own adventure or “fastpacking” runs. While lured in by the occasional trail race or Ultramarathon, self supported challenges in the hills are ultimately where you’ll find Tim in his happy place.
With adequate planning and preparation, the ability to cover multiday tramps in a single day is deeply rewarding and addictive. Tim will share what he has learnt through trial and error, about preparing for an epic adventure through the hills under your own steam. “Life begins outside your comfort zone.”
